PPG Industries announced the completion of its first Colorful Communities charitable-giving project in Asia, with the restoration of a mural at a child-care center in Busan, South Korea. The Colorful Communities program, which the company launched in May, incorporates PPG employee volunteers, products and charitable giving to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world. The program expands PPG’s investment in its communities by committing an additional $10 million over 10 years in Colorful Communities Projects.

The Busan project brought together about 100 volunteers – employees of PPG’s local manufacturing facility and their family members – to restore a mural at a local cooperative child-care center using PPG paint products. In addition to creating a more positive and pleasant environment for those who use the facility through this effort, PPG also awarded a $20,000 Colorful Communities grant to the Saha-gu social welfare center, an organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of citizens in the “Gamchun” cultural community in South Korea. The community is known for the murals painted in its alleys.

“We are very pleased to add some color and excitement to show our commitment to the communities where we operate,” said James Do, president, PPG Korea, during a recognition ceremony. “PPG is committed to continuing its efforts to engage and assist the community around the Busan facility.”

PPG’s Colorful Communities initiative aims to enhance, protect and beautify the neighborhoods where the company operates around the world. Together with community partners and PPG employee volunteers, the program supports projects that transform community assets. PPG has completed its first two Colorful Communities projects: a school makeover near its global headquarters in Pittsburgh, and a children’s hospital revitalization near several PPG manufacturing facilities in Italy. The company expects to complete more than 14 Colorful Communities projects this year in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative for its community engagement efforts. In 2014, PPG and the PPG Industries Foundation donated more than $5.7 million to hundreds of community organizations across 24 countries around the world. These investments focused on: education programs that teach young people skills needed to succeed in studies and careers related to science, technology, engineering and math, such as jobs in advanced manufacturing; revitalization programs for buildings and community spaces; and organizations important to employees through grant and matching-funds programs.
